UTM DBA Student Renita Huang Awarded Prestigious Great Wine Capitals International Research Grant
MACAU, September 23 - The Macao University of Tourism (UTM) is proud to announce that Ms. Renita Huang Rongrong, a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) candidate at the university, has been awarded the prestigious 2026-2027 Great Wine Capitals (GWC) International Research Grant. Standing out from a highly competitive international pool of applicants, Ms. Huang was selected as one of only two global recipients for this academic year.
The Great Wine Capitals Global Network is an exclusive international association uniting world-renowned wine-producing regions, including Bordeaux (France), Adelaide (Australia), Napa Valley (USA), and Florence (Italy). The Network presents this international grant annually to foster cutting-edge research that bridges theoretical excellence with practical solutions for the global wine and tourism industries. The selection committee commended Ms. Huang’s proposal for its exceptional originality, methodological rigour, and strategic alignment with the Network’s global priorities.
The grant provides comprehensive funding to support Ms. Huang’s research execution and facilitate her final presentation at its annual conference. Under the joint mentorship of internationally acclaimed scholar Professor Marianna Sigala from Newcastle University and her DBA supervisor Professor Eve Ren Lianping from UTM, Ms. Huang developed the winning proposal.
Focusing on the evolving market dynamics of Chinese outbound wine tourists visiting GWC destinations, the funded project examines contemporary consumer profiling and behavioural shifts. By addressing critical operational and marketing challenges, the research provides data-driven strategies to assist global wineries in optimising product positioning while offering actionable insights for gastronomy and wine tourism development across Macao and the wider Greater Bay Area.
