UM hosts over 30 summer camps and training courses
MACAU, August 11 - To promote international academic exchange, the University of Macau (UM) hosted over 30 camps and training courses this summer. The camps and training courses covered a wide range of fields, including business administration, health sciences, artificial intelligence and robotics, smart cities, integrated circuit design, applied physics and materials engineering, and language learning. They provided prospective students, researchers, and language learners from around the world with learning and exchange opportunities to deepen their knowledge and gain insights into UM’s academic strengths.
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities, the Faculty of Business Administration, the Faculty of Medicine (formerly the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Institute of Applied Physics and Materials Engineering, and the Global Affairs Office organised a series of summer camps. Participants came from leading institutions around the world, including the University of Warwick (UK), the University of Barcelona (Spain), KU Leuven (Belgium), Western Sydney University (Australia), the National University of Singapore, the State University of Campinas (Brazil), Korea University (South Korea), Peking University, Tsinghua University, Nanjing University, the University of Hong Kong, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong. During the camps, participants learned about UM’s international education model and academic programmes, expanded their professional knowledge, and broadened their academic horizons. They also explored Macao’s rich history and cultural heritage and experienced the city’s unique blend of Chinese and Western cultures by visiting the Historic Centre of Macao.
The State Key Laboratory of Internet of Things for Smart City also held the 4th IOTSC Summer Camp for Outstanding University Students. Combining research activities, academic lectures, and cultural visits, the camp provided a platform for academic exchange that integrated theory and practice, and attracted outstanding students from institutions such as the University of Manchester (UK), KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), and Zhejiang University. The camp also enabled participants to enhance their understanding of smart city research and development. Meanwhile, the State Key Laboratory of Analog and Mixed-Signal VLSI organised its second summer camp for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students. The camp provided participants from around the world with the opportunity to learn about the laboratory’s latest research achievements and cutting-edge technologies in microelectronics.
In addition, the Centre for Continuing Education offered a series of summer training courses for institutions in the Chinese mainland. The courses covered topics such as chemistry and chemical engineering, advanced materials, personal privacy and data protection, medicine and life sciences, artificial intelligence and innovative economy, and STEM literacy enhancement. They enabled students and faculty members from mainland institutions to experience UM’s international learning environment. The courses also strengthened the university’s partnerships with mainland institutions and supported talent cultivation across various disciplines.
